The championship was co-hosted by the Korean Embassy and the Oman Taekwondo Committee.

The Kukkiwon performance showcased impressive taekwondo techniques, adding an air of festivity to the martial art competition. In his congratulatory remarks, Ambassador Kim Kiejoo of Korea praised all participants for their passion and dedication to taekwondo, highlighting the vital role of taekwondo in strengthening sports exchanges, thereby promoting people-to-people exchanges and bilateral relations between Korea and Oman.

“We want to spread the message of unity and peace across the world under the difficult situation at many parts of the globe at the moment,” Min Haeng Lee, coach of the Kukkiwon Demonstration Team, told Oman Observer.

“Taekwondo is much more than a sport as it incorporates discipline and human values in those who practice the martial art sport,” Lee said.

This is the fourth time the Kukkiwon team has toured Oman. This time, the team was coming after a tour to Pakistan and the next stop is Saudi Arabia.

The taekwondo demonstration team came to Muscat at the invitation of the Korean Embassy which has been celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic relations between Oman and Korea in a series of events including the championship held over the weekend.

The team of 17 martial art players made the closing ceremony of the championship exceptional with mind-boggling taekwondo techniques, featuring smashing boards in the air, twisting and kicking and outstanding discipline.

Launched in 1974, the Kukkiwon Taekwondo demonstration team has played a pioneering role in sharing taekwondo, the martial art heritage of Korea, with the people around the world over the past five decades, and Taekwondo has become one of the most popular martial arts among young Omanis, invigorating exchanges between Oman and Korea in culture and sports sectors.
