MUSCAT: Oman junior stars are in perfect shape to commence their campaign at the AFC U17 Asian Cup Qualifiers in Group J, which will begin in Singapore on Wednesday. Oman will meet the hosts Singapore in a tough clash at the Bishan Stadium with kick-off at 4 pm (Oman time).

Oman head coach Anwar al Habsi said that the qualifiers are the initial step towards attending the finals. “We are targeting to earn the first spot in the group and secure a slot in the Asian finals in Saudi Arabia next year. The opening game is always the key match in the campaign and I am confident in my junior stars to deliver a top show on the green field. We respect all the teams in the group and our goal is to register positive results,” the coach added in his remarks during the press conference.

Oman player Ahmed al Omrani sounded confident as he said the players are set for clinching the direct ticket to the finals. “We are in the best technical status for the qualifiers and our aim is to capture first place and move into the AFC Asian Cup. The preparations went in the best manner in an exciting environment. The players will deliver their best performance towards securing top results. Reaching the AFC Asian Cup is the target of all the players and we will fight for this goal. We are used to playing under pressure in the previous assignments and all players in the squad are in the best shape to compete against the group’s teams,” he added.

Oman are placed in Group J alongside Tajikistan, Guam, and hosts Singapore. Oman’s next match is against Guam on Friday before meeting Tajikistan in the concluding clash on Sunday.
