Omani women in oil & gas sector feted

The Ministry of Energy and Minerals hosted a ceremony here yesterday, October 21, 2024, to a celebration yesterday, October 21st, to felicitate Omani women working in the Oil & Gas sector in the Sultanate of Oman. The event was held under the auspices of Her Highness Sayyida Dr Mona bint Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Assistant Vice-Chancellor for International Cooperation at Sultan Qaboos University.
The ceremony, organised in cooperation with the Oman Energy Association (OPAL), was also attended by Eng Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals.
Speaking to the Observer, the Director of the Planning and Economic Studies Department at the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Badriya al Hadhrami, commented: “I am very happy to be here on such a day, to have the opportunity to come together with our companies in the energy and minerals sector, to congratulate each other on this achievement and to celebrate this beautiful day together. We have been a key partner alongside our male colleagues in the energy and minerals sector over the past period. Indeed, women have proven their competence in many areas within the sector, whether in technical roles, as engineers, or even in senior leadership positions within this sector.”
The event also featured the launch of the ‘You Are the Energy’ Award, which recognizes the innovations and achievements of Omani women in the oil and gas sector. Al Hadhrami added, “Today, we are truly delighted with one of the enablers presented at this celebration: the launch of the ‘You Are the Energy’ award. This award serves as an additional motivation for us in the sector to bring forth all our energies and to contribute as much as possible to enhancing this sector.” The celebrations also applauded the contributions of Omani women in supporting sustainability efforts and the transition to clean energy. Additionally, the event featured two panel discussions focusing on the themes, ‘The Role of Women in Leadership’ and ‘Women in STEM’.
Also in attendance the event were members of various public and private sector energy institutions. According to the Ministry, there are currently around 3,000 women working in the oil and gas sector in Oman. Of this figure, 243 hold leadership and supervisory positions, including as CEOs and Deputy CEOs.
