WUHU, OCT 21
Chery Group has unveiled its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy during its main conference, underscoring the company’s commitment to becoming a world-leading, green, and intelligent mobility technology company. With a focus on sustainability, innovation, and global impact, the strategy reflects Chery’s determination to address pressing environmental challenges and foster social progress worldwide.
Achieving success through innovation, sustainability, and community engagement
Yin Tongyu, Chairman of Chery Group, announced impressive performance figures during the conference: 'Chery recorded total sales of 1.75 million units from January to September 2024—a 40% increase year-on-year, with 830,000 units exported. Our success is built not only on sales but on quality, earning us recognition as the top Chinese brand in the 2024 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study (IQS). In June, we proudly entered the Fortune Global 500, ranking 385th.'
Yin emphasised that this progress is just the start of Chery’s journey: “We pursue a vision to become a global leader in green, intelligent mobility technology. As the automotive industry faces unprecedented challenges—ranging from climate change to digital transformation—Chery is committed to driving change through technology, new energy, and AI, which are essential trends shaping the future.”
The Chairman also highlighted the company’s globalization strategy: “Our 'In Somewhere, For Somewhere' philosophy establishes localized teams and talent systems to enhance manufacturing, R&D, and sales. By integrating into the communities we serve, Chery aims to be a truly local company—contributing to the economy, engaging in social welfare activities, and spreading kindness.”
Unwavering focus on innovation and sustainability
To maintain long-term competitiveness, Chery is dedicating 20 billion RMB annually to technological innovation, establishing R&D centers across eight global cities, including North America and Europe. With over 300 Yaoguang laboratories and more than 20,000 engineers, the company is advancing breakthroughs in new energy, intelligent connectivity, autonomous driving, and AI.
Environmental stewardship is also central to Chery’s strategy. “Chery is among the pioneers of new energy technology in China, investing heavily in low-carbon solutions throughout the value chain,” Yin said. “Our ESG strategy is embedded in everything we do, from research and development to production, ensuring a sustainable future.”
With Chery, With Love: Global impact through collaboration
Chery’s 'With Chery, With Love' initiative, in partnership with JUCN and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), reflects the company’s commitment to environmental conservation. The company also collaborates with UNICEF to support educational projects, improving access to quality education for nearly 40 million children worldwide in 2023.
Charlie Zhang, Executive Vice President of Chery International, elaborated: 'From 2023 to 2024, we evolved from launching ESG initiatives to implementing impactful projects with global partners. This journey reflects our dedication to making meaningful contributions to communities worldwide.”
At the 2024 Chery International User Summit, Chery welcomed prominent figures such as Ban Ki-moon, 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, Dame Jenny Shipley, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, and Rachel Asante from IUCN, whose insights reinforced the company’s commitment to sustainability.
Creating a greener and more inclusive future together
Chery’s impact extends beyond environmental efforts to include social development initiatives. These range from robot companions designed to provide care to community outreach programs led by Chery owners. The company recently hosted the 'Ride Green Life' cycling event in partnership with IUCN to promote greener lifestyles, and organized a beach cleanup along Turkey’s Mediterranean coast with the help of Chery users and their families.
“ESG is not just a program for us—it is part of our DNA, guiding our strategy, operations, and decisions,” Yin said. “We invite all stakeholders to collaborate with us in reshaping the automotive ecosystem, offering innovative products and driving sustainable mobility.”
Chery remains committed to expanding its ESG efforts, advancing global partnerships, and creating a future where technology, sustainability, and community engagement are deeply interconnected. 'Together, we will co-create a better, greener, and more inclusive tomorrow,” Yin concluded.
