MUSCAT: Educators across Oman have shared their joy and pride on the occasion of Omani Women’s Day, a celebration that highlights the contributions and progress of women in various fields. Since its establishment by the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, October 17 has been a day to honour the vital role of Omani women in the country’s development journey, a legacy now carried forward under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
Omani women have risen alongside men in sustainable development, thanks to the support and recognition from the government. This sentiment is echoed by other educators, who emphasise the importance of this day in acknowledging the leadership, resilience and dedication of Omani women.
Manal Al Maashari, Headmaster of Al Shawamekh Basic Education School in Muscat Governorate, praises the Royal support that has enabled women to assume leadership roles and contribute significantly to Oman's progress. Meanwhile, Halima al Shehhi, Headmaster of Lima Primary School in Musandam Governorate, celebrates the pride Omani women feel in their contributions to society, both as educators and leaders.
Statistics from the Ministry of Education highlight the growing presence of women in the sector, with over 28,000 female educators playing pivotal roles in shaping the future. Educators like Sumia al Farsi, from Al Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, recognise the balancing act Omani women face between family responsibilities and professional achievements, yet they continue to thrive in both.
Munira al Hamami, an Administrative and Financial Affairs Specialist at Al Ahd Primary School in Al Batinah South Governorate, reflects on the progress of Omani women.
Maryam al Fayoumi, Headmaster of Al Firdaws Private School in Muscat Governorate, emphasised the government’s role in empowering Omani women: “I am proud to be part of a society that recognises the contributions of women. The government’s efforts have ensured equal opportunities in education, employment and leadership. Their support has been crucial in overcoming challenges, including economic empowerment programmes, flexible work environments and initiatives for leadership development.”
Intisar al Wahaibi, an Arabic language teacher at Al Sahbaa bint Rabia School in Muscat Governorate, highlighted the transformation of Omani women: “Omani women have become vital to decision-making and societal progress. Their expanded contributions, supported by increased rights in education, employment and gender equality, embody Oman’s vision of inclusive development and a modern, thriving society.”
Omani Women’s Day serves as a reminder of the nation's progress towards gender equality and the enduring support from the government, which has paved the way for women’s empowerment in all sectors. As expressed by Amna al Raisi, a Senior Social Guidance Supervisor, the day is a moment to appreciate the tireless efforts of Omani women — from homemakers to those in senior leadership positions — who contribute to the country’s growth and prosperity.
Omani women have become symbols of success, as Rahma al Marzouqi, a visual arts teacher, highlights their continued ambition and contributions to building Oman’s present and future. With ongoing support and opportunities, they stand as integral partners in the nation’s development, embodying the spirit of progress and empowerment.
