MUSCAT: Oman head coach Rasheed Jaber said that the team made several mistakes during their game against Jordan which ended for the latter by 4-0 on Tuesday.

“Congratulations to Jordan team for their crucial performance as they managed to win the game. My sincere regret to all the Omani fans and domestic football lovers for this negative result,” Jaber said during a press conference post the game.

Rasheed who replaced Czech coach Jaroslav Silhavy, suffered the first defeat in the Asian Qualifiers since his appointment.

“Jordan team managed to dominate the entire match. Our preparations for the match were very positive but we made several mistakes that cost the team a lot and suffered this defeat. All the players who began the match except Abdulrahman al Mushaifri were not on the right status including the substitutes. This is the worst match for the team in the qualifiers,” he added.

The head coach commented on the team’s mental attendance as he said:” The mental presence of the opponent team was very good and this allowed them to deliver an outstanding show.”

Despite the result, coach Rasheed re-affirmed that the team’s chances for securing a slot are still available. “The chances are still there but we need to change our mentality and the players are needed to be more positive in the forthcoming matches,” he concluded.

The 4-0 defeat against Jordan dropped Oman to fourth position and remained at three points while South Korea led the table by 10 points while Jordan are in the second position with seven points. Iraq are in third place with seven points too. Kuwait and Palestine are in the fifth and sixth places respectively.

Oman will meet Palestine in Muscat on November 14 and they will host Iraq on November 19 at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. In both matches, Red Warriors are required to earn winning points in order to keep their hopes alive in the qualifiers.
