Muscat receives over 80mm of rain

Muscat: According to the monitoring stations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, the wilayat of Sur recorded the highest amount of rainfall of 215 mm, followed by the wilayat of Qurayyat of 170 mm, and then the wilayat of Muscat with 100 mm, during the period from October 14 to 16.
From Tuesday, various governorates received heavy rains until 6 am this morning, which include Qalhat 184.4 mm, Sur 114.4 mm, Port Sultan Qaboos Port in Muscat Governorate 74.4 mm, and Muscat International Airport 7.4 mm.
Jaalan Bani Bu Ali 100 mm and Muttrah recording 64 mm, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources.
23 reports were dealt with by the rescue teams of the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority since the beginning of the weather conditions in the governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and Muscat.
Early morning radar images showed the flow of clouds towards the coasts of the South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and South Muscat governorates, and parts of North Al Batinah and South Al Batinah.
Due to the continued heavy thunderstorms likely to fall due to the influence of clouds accompanying the weather conditions on the governorates of North Al Batinah, Muscat, South Al Batinah, South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Al Dakhiliyah, North Al Sharqiyah and the mountainous areas of Al Dhahirah and Al Buraimi governorates with rainfall amounts ranging from 20-50 mm accompanied by active winds at times leading to the flow of valleys and ravines. Chances of scattered rains also continue in Dhofar Governorate ranging from 10-30 mm.
The General Authority of Civil Aviation urges everyone to take precautions during thunderstorms.
The authorities have requested public not to cross valleys, avoid low-lying areas, and do not go to sea during the warning period.
The general weather forecast stated that Wednesday is expected to be partly cloudy to cloudy skies over most of the governorates with chances of isolated rain occasionally thundershower associated with fresh winds over governorates of South Al Sharqiyah, North Al Sharqiyah, Muscat, South AL Batinah, North Al Batinah Al Buraimi and Al Dhahirah.
Clear to partly cloudy skies over Dhofar Governorate with chance of varying intensity rain.
Sohar, Al Khabourah and Saham received rains in the morning in addition to Muscat. Muttrah Souq also faced rush of wadi water. Tuesday night saw wadis flowing in Muscat and Muttrah.
The NCEM said traffic has been opened at Wadi Bani Khalid.
