Oman suspends work and classes in multiple governorates due to tropical system

 

Muscat: In response to the anticipated heavy rainfall from the approaching tropical system, the National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM) has issued a statement suspending work and in-person classes in various sectors across several governorates, starting from Tuesday, October 15.

This decision was made following the latest data from the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Center, which predicts rainfall between 40 to 90 mm in affected areas.

The suspension and transition to remote work and learning will affect the following regions:



  1. Complete suspension of work and in-person learning in the governorates of Muscat, South Al Sharqiyah, and North Al Sharqiyah.



  2. Suspension of in-person learning and shift to remote in the governorates of Al Wusta, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, and the mountainous areas of Al Dakhiliyah and Al Dhahirah.



This announcement follows earlier warnings by Oman Meteorology, which forecasts heavy rains ranging from 30 to 80 mm starting Monday evening. Regions expected to experience significant rainfall include South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta, Dhofar, as well as Muscat, North Al Sharqiyah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, North Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, and Al Buraimi.
