MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, will mark the Omani Women’s Day on Thursday which falls on October 17.

This year’s celebrations are dedicated to culture, literature and manuscripts and will include an operetta entitled ‘Eve of Oman’. A number of outstanding Omani women in the field of culture, literature and manuscripts will be feted as part of the celebrations.

Wadha bint Salim al Alawiyah, Director of Women’s Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development, said: “Celebrating the Omani Women’s Day on October 17 of each year embodies the Sultanate of Oman’s interest in Omani women and the belief in their active role in the comprehensive development process and is in line with the Royal directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to enhance their status and capabilities and facilitating appropriate opportunities for them.”

This year's celebration of the Omani Women’s Day aims to highlight the Omani women’s contributions and achievements to the field of culture, literature and manuscripts and their participation in the national, regional and international cultural and literary forums, events and festivals.

Nation-wide, the Omani women participated in the cultural and literary activities organised by the Omani Cultural Club, civil society institutions such as the Omani Society for Writers and Literati (OSWL), the Oman Journalists Association (OJA), and other cultural institutions and civil society organisations.

Throughout their participation, the Omani women have achieved advanced positions in Arab and international cultural and literary awards and earned praise and recognition, she said. — ONA
