NIZWA: The health sector of Nizwa and Al Jabal Al Akhdhar, in collaboration with Nizwa Healthy City, sports teams, community associations and the University of Nizwa, organised a sports and tourism walk in the village of Tanuf.
This event was part of the Ministry of Health’s initiatives to commemorate the International Day of Older Persons. The walk was themed 'Health and Community,' aimed at encouraging physical activity and enhancing the role of seniors in society.
Over 300 participants joined the walk, which began on Saturday and covered approximately 10 kilometres. They went through green farms and fresh springs, enjoying the serene beauty of the landscape. The event also fostered an interactive environment, combining entertainment with community participation.
The day concluded with a special entertainment programme for seniors, attended by elderly individuals, in recognition of the International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1 each year.
In addition to the walk, an awareness exhibition was held. This exhibition showcased a wide range of health services, including dental clinics, a heart clinic, health education clinics and other community services. Supported by various health and community organisations, the exhibition aimed to promote elderly health and raise public awareness of the importance of physical activity.
Dr Abdullah al Busaidi, Head of the Birkat Al Mouz Health Centre, emphasised, “This exhibition aligns with the vision of the General Directorate of Health Services in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate for sustainable health and pioneering services, alongside community partnerships with private and civil institutions. It aims to raise community awareness on the International Day of Older Persons.”
