IBRA: The Omani Society for Writers and Literati (OSWL) organised an international conference titled 'Utilising Heritage in Omani Literature'.

The conference was held in cooperation with the Office of the Governor of Al Sharqiyah North and A'Sharqiyah University.

The participants recommended the setting up of a 'Studies and Research Centre for Human Sciences' to be entrusted with studying tangible and intangible heritage.

They also recommended the addition of 'folk literature' to the curricula of Arabic language students (of higher education institutions). In addition, the conferees proposed an 'Award for the Best Academic Research Specialised in Omani Heritage'.

The conference focused on the use of heritage in Omani literature through the presentation of narrative readings and models of novels, blogs, poetic and literary writings. It showcased the intellectual collections of Omani thinkers, writers and authors across different historical eras.

The conference featured three scientific sessions, with a total of 12 working papers presented. The first session included discussions on heritage representation in Omani literature, such as the study of ‘The Story of the Village’ by Nasser al Hasani, and the depiction of aflaj in Omani novels.

The second session explored Omani heritage in poetic works, including analyses of Abdul Razzaq al Rubaie’s literary contributions and Said al Saqlawi’s poetry. The third session delved into the inspiration of heritage in modern Omani poetry and storytelling. - ONA
