Muscat: Under the auspices of Mohammed bin Ali Akaak, Wali of Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan, the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, in collaboration with the National Records and Archives Authority, launched a training programme on the Modern Document Management System.

The three-day programme aims to enhance the skills of over 90 employees from various government agencies within the governorate.

Ahmed bin Saif al Kiyumi, Director of the Follow-up and Technical Support Department at the National Records and Archives Authority, led the initiative with a visual presentation.

He detailed the stages involved in developing a document management system for public institutions, including the creation of classification guides and document retention schedules. The presentation also covered the objectives of the system and provided practical exercises on its implementation within work environments.

On the second day, participants will focus on intermediate document management procedures, such as transferring, registering, and shelving documents in storage facilities. These processes will include the selection and transfer of documents, as well as the review of national guidelines on document sorting and destruction. Legal regulations regarding judicial oversight for certain employees, alongside violations and crimes related to document and archive management, will also be addressed.

The programme places particular emphasis on safeguarding public records from risks such as environmental conditions and natural disasters. Additionally, it offers hands-on training in document management system implementation, reinforcing theoretical knowledge with practical exercises.
