HM Cup matches to begin on OCT 23

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, represented by the Oman Football Association (OFA), on Monday unveiled the draw of the 53rd edition of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, Sultan of Oman’s Cup football championship 2024-25.
The championship witnesses the participation of 25 clubs, with 12 clubs from the Omantel League: Seeb, Al Nahdha, Oman, Sohar, Al Rustaq, Al Nasr, Sur, Ibri, Al Shabab, Bahla, Saham and Al Khabourah. Thirteen clubs from the First Division League include Dhofar, Al Salam, Salalah, Fanja, Bausher, Nizwa, Al Wahda, Al Mudhaibi, Al Ittihad, Ahli Sidab, Muscat, Al Taleaa and Samayil.
HH Sayyid Azzan bin Qais bin Tariq al Said was the chief guest for the draw ceremony in the presence of OFA Chairman Salem al Wahaibi, members of the OFA Board of Directors, representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and a number of chairmen of the boards of directors of local clubs participating in the competition.
The competition begins with the preliminary round matches played in a single-match knockout system. The round of 16 is played in a single-match knockout system. The quarterfinals and semifinals are played in a two-match knockout system (home/away). The final match is played in a single-match system.
18 CLUBS
Eighteen clubs will take part in the preliminary round, nine of which will qualify for the round of 16. All clubs start from the preliminary round except seven clubs that were directly promoted to the round of 16, which are Dhofar (champions of the previous edition), Seeb (champions of the Omantel League), Al Nahdha (second in the Omantel League), Oman Club (third in the Omantel League), Sohar (fourth in the Omantel League), Al Rustaq (fifth in the Omantel League) and Al Nasr (sixth in the Omantel League).
The club whose name appears first in the draw will host the match. In the quarterfinals and semifinals, the club whose name appears first in the classification shown in the draw will host the first leg.
The matches will start on October 23. The winners of the Al Mudhaibi and Al Salam match will host defending champions Dhofar in the round of 16. Al Nasr will host the winners of the Al Taleaa and Nizwa match from the knockout round. Oman Club will host the winners of the Al Shabab and Muscat match. Sohar will face the winners of the Al Ittihad and Bausher match. Seeb will play against the winners of the Fanja and Al Wahda match. The winners from the Ibri and Salalah match will host Al Rustaq. The winners from the Al Khabourah and Bahla contest will face Al Nahdha. The winners from the Sur and Saham match will host the winners from Ahli Sidab and Samayil.
The Oman Football Association will provide cash prizes for the top three winners. The first-placed team will receive RO 25,000 along with the HM Cup and 50 gold medals. The second-placed team will receive RO 15,000 and 50 silver medals.
