MHT restructures committee responsible for management of Bahla Fort

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) has issued a ministerial decision to reconstitute the committee responsible for implementing the management plan for Bahla Oasis and Fort, located in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.

The committee, chaired by the Wali of Bahla, will include representatives from various government bodies, and private companies. Key members consist of the Bahla representative at the Shura Council, members of the Municipal Council, the Department of Municipal Affairs, and officials from the Office of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Additionally, representatives from departments related to housing, urban planning, and agricultural development are also members in the committee.

The Director of the Bahla Oasis and Fort site, alongside representatives from the Department of Heritage and Tourism in al Dakhiliyah Governorate, Marasem Tours, and the private sector, will also contribute to the committee’s efforts.

The newly formed committee’s primary responsibility is to oversee the effective implementation of regulations and the management plan for the site. This includes coordinating and supervising plans, projects, and programmes from various entities to ensure the sustainable development of Bahla’s historical and archaeological sites. Furthermore, the committee is responsible for approving rehabilitation initiatives, promoting social, economic, and environmental sustainability, and ensuring community involvement in projects and employment opportunities.

This decision underscores the ministry’s continued dedication to preserving Oman’s rich cultural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism and active community engagement.
