IZKI: The Social Development Department in Izki organised a seminar titled 'Shielding Youth from Intellectual Influences,' aimed at addressing the behavioural challenges faced by young people and the role of family supervision in protecting them from modern distractions.

The event, which was held in Izki Public Hall was held under the auspices of Sheikh Hilal bin Said al Hajri, Governor of Al Dakhiliyah, and attended by several dignitaries, including walis from the governorate, members of the Shura Council representing Izki, officials from the government and private sectors, and students from both genders.

In his opening remarks, Ahmed al Toubi, Assistant Director, Social Development Department in Izki, outlined the critical challenges confronting youth today, particularly amidst the fast-paced changes in intellectual and social landscapes.

'It is our collective responsibility to face these challenges with determination,' he said, emphasising the Ministry of Social Development's role in collaborating with other entities to address societal concerns, with youth support and the promotion of national identity as top priorities.

The seminar featured a panel discussion with Sheikh Ibrahim al Sawafi, media personality Moosa al Farei, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed al Hashami, and moderated by Dr Ahmed al Maamari. Moderated by Dr Ahmed al Maamari, the discussion explored various perspectives on protecting youth from external influences.

Sheikh Ibrahim al Sawafi also noted that change is a gradual process, but young minds are increasingly impacted by rapid global shifts in ideas, particularly concerning religion, politics, ethics, and values.

Moosa al Farei emphasised the importance of family involvement, advising parents to engage closely with their children, understand their needs, and ensure their time is spent constructively. He warned against the negative impacts of social media, urging students to be cautious about the content they consume and avoid emulating individuals who do not align with their cultural values.

Lt Col Mohammed al Hashami discussed the challenges posed by the 'technological invasion,' which has made it difficult to shield young people from external influences. He highlighted the rise in cybercrimes, including blackmail and identity theft, as key concerns. He also underscored the need for stronger family bonds to provide the guidance necessary for raising well-rounded, responsible individuals.

The seminar concluded with a call to action, emphasising families, educators, and community leaders to work together in fostering a safe and supportive environment for the younger generation.

Participants emphasised the importance of continuous dialogue and proactive measures to ensure that youth are equipped to navigate modern challenges while staying rooted in their values and cultural identity.
