‘Amjad’ claims first win as camel race season begins

BARKA: ‘Amjad’, owned by Ali al Wahibi, snatched the opening day honours of the first general camel race in Barka on Friday, which will continue for three days. It marked the start of the 22nd edition of the annual camel races for the 2024-2025 season.
The event is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and organised by the Oman Camel Racing Federation (OCRF) in cooperation with Royal Camel Corps (RCC).
The race will witness 18 rounds divided equally between Barka and Adam, that are dedicated to the ‘Hagayeg’ category, two years old over a distance of 3 km.
As many as 700 camels competed on the first day in Barka to get the race prize, cash prize for the top 10, and 650 camels competed in Adam.
'Amjad’, owned by Ali al Wahibi, won the first race. In the second race, ‘Ahdaf’ came first, owned by Ghashim al Mukhabi. The third race was won by ‘Moaned’, owned by Nassir al Dohani. The fourth race was won by ‘Showahin’, owned by Hamood al Ghufaili, the fifth race was won by ‘Agayeb’, owned by Abdullah al Wahibi. ‘Molfet’, owned by Mohammed al Habsi, won the sixth race.
In the seventh race, ‘Thamenah’, owned by Rahid al Amri, bagged the top place, ‘Al Dhabi’, owned by Nasser al Saadi, won the eighth race, ‘Mothhel’, owned by Said al Hashmi, came first in the ninth race and the tenth race award was snatched by ‘Nejood’, owned by Nasser al Zari.
In the 11th race, ‘Elaaj’, owned by Asad al Ghefali, was the winner, ‘Mobher’, owned by Mubarak al Harsosi, came top in the 12th race, ‘Tamoel’, owned by Al Sagier al Zarai claimed the 13th race honours, the 14th race was won by ‘Mathkhorah’, owned by Salim al Wahibi, the 15th race prize was snatched by ‘Mashkoor’, owned by Ahmed al Ghufaili, the 16th race was won by ‘Moazem’, owned by Said al Hashmi and the 17th race top spot was claimed by ‘Al Waryah’, owned by Abdullah al Reshadi. ‘Zooman’, owned by Hilal al Maharbi, won the 18th race.
Out of the second day competition's 27 rounds, 12 rounds will be held in Adam and 12 rounds in Barka for the ‘Laqaya’ category, three years old over a distance of 4 km. The Barka field will host three rounds for human rider's race for 2 km, which is a miniature image of the past race before using the robotic rider, as a kind of support for young people to preserve this historical sport.
