Oman U14 team shines in Asian junior tennis in Doha

The Omani national under-14 tennis team achieved positive results at the start of the third Asian Junior Championship, held in the Qatari capital of Doha, with the participation of several Asian teams.

In the singles category, the first and second days saw outstanding performances. Abdulrahman al Rahbi managed to defeat Qatar's Abdullah Abdullah 6-1, 6-0. Additionally, Moataz al Mazrouei triumphed over Qatar's Tamim Samer 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, while Azzan al Busaidi lost to UAE's Ali al Ali 4-6, 4-6.

In the doubles matches, Abdulrahman al Rahbi and his Turkmenistani partner Karimgeldi Filibekov achieved a significant victory over the Qatari duo, winning 6-2, 6-1. However, Al Mazrouei and Al Busaidi lost to the Qatari pair of Abdullah and Abdulrahman 6-4, 6-2.

The second day saw Al Mazrouei defeat Brazilian player Daniel with a score of 6-4, 6-3, while Al Rahbi lost to Saudi player Salman al Yami 3-6, 2-6. In doubles, Al Rahbi and his partner Karimgeldi were defeated by the Indian-Kazakh duo 4-6, 3-6.

Commenting on the players' results, the team's coach, Sofian Dube said that the players performed well on the first day of the tournament, achieving several victories and showing outstanding levels. He added that there is a noticeable improvement in the players' level despite the difference in experience with the competitors.

He noted that the tournament is ongoing and that the team is participating to gain ranking points, in addition to the technical benefits from these competitions, which contribute to the development of the players' skills. He expressed confidence that the players will perform better in the upcoming matches, emphasising that they will gain valuable experience from this tournament.
