IBRI: The Organic Farm in Ibri, operated by Oman Palm Development Company, has achieved a significant milestone by receiving the advanced international organic agriculture certification, “Ecocert.” This recognition establishes the farm as the largest certified organic palm farm in Oman, setting a benchmark in the nation’s organic agriculture sector.
Located in Al Dhahirah Governorate, the farm currently cultivates 35,000 date palm trees across 4.8 million square meters, featuring premium varieties such as Fardh, Khalas, Fahol, and Majdool. The farm’s certification under the Ecocert program allows its products to be sold in both the US and European markets, significantly expanding its reach and boosting its global competitiveness. This achievement underscores the company’s commitment to adopting sustainable and organic agricultural practices, enhancing Oman’s position in the international market for high-quality organic dates.
Eng Masoud bin Saeed al Hinai, Senior Specialist for Agricultural Operations at Nakheel Oman Development Company, emphasized that this certification reaffirms the farm’s dedication to meeting international standards and strengthens its reputation in the organic farming industry. He added that the company plans to expand the total number of palm trees to 50,000 in the coming years, focusing on varieties that are in high demand in global markets.
The farm employs state-of-the-art irrigation systems integrated with smart sensors, ensuring optimal water use and efficient agricultural practices. It strictly adheres to organic methods, avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or genetically modified organisms, which further elevates the quality and appeal of its produce.
This achievement aligns with Oman’s broader goals of enhancing food security, promoting sustainable agriculture, and tapping into lucrative export markets for organic products, supporting the country’s vision for agricultural and economic development. — ONA
