Oman women move into quarters

MUSCAT: The Oman women's padel team progressed to the quarterfinals of the FIP World Padel Championships Asia-Africa Qualifiers, which is underway in Kuwait City until Friday. Oman takes on the Philippines on Wednesday in a key match that will decide the winner advancing to the semifinals. The final stage of the FIP World Padel Championships is scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar from October 28 to November 2.
The national women's padel team, comprising Leena al Zadjali, Marah al Abduwani, Eathar al Bulooshi, Sarah al Balushi, Maryam al Balushi, and Aisha al Suliemani, managed to secure a crucial win against the UAE in their concluding group match. Oman had a strong start with a resounding 3-0 win over Lebanon. Oman was represented by Sara al Balushi, Eathar al Balushi, Leena al Zadjali, Aisha al Suliemani, Mariam al Balushi and Ruaa al Suwaid. Oman’s women’s team was placed alongside the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon in Group B.
Japan topped Group A after a 3-0 win over Kuwait, with both teams advancing to the quarterfinals. Iran and Egypt also secured their places, as Egypt defeated Iran 2-1. In Group D, Australia claimed a 3-0 victory over Thailand, clinching a qualifying spot, while the Philippines edged Senegal 2-1.
Oman’s men's team concluded their participation in the event. Drawn into a tough group with Iran, Japan, and China in Group C, Oman suffered a 3-0 loss against Iran in the opening game. The team, represented by Abdullah al Barwani, Sami Habib, Younis al Rawahi, Muneer al Rawahi, Khalid al Nabhani and Abdulaziz al Balushi, faced a second successive loss against Japan. However, they concluded the group stage with a win over China in the third game. In the 9-14 position play-off, Oman triumphed over Thailand, ending their participation in the qualifiers.
