MUSCAT: The third edition of the Oman Electricity and Energy Conference (IEEE PowerTalks) opened yesterday at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, focusing on the mechanisms of energy transformation in Oman. The event brings together local and international participants and is organised by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in partnership with Raya Services and Business Company.

The conference, inaugurated by Dr Khamis bin Saif al Jabri, Chairman of Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-Up Unit, highlights the country’s ongoing efforts to diversify energy sources, with a strong emphasis on renewable energy. Nama Group CEO, Ahmed bin Amer al Mahrizi, stressed that while significant progress has been made, challenges such as climate change and rising energy demand remain.

Engineer Abdullah al Wahaibi, Head of the Electrical and Energy Division at the Institute, outlined that the event will cover topics such as energy efficiency, asset management, renewable systems, and energy storage technologies. Key discussions will center on Oman's strategies for reducing carbon emissions and securing sustainable energy supplies, in line with Oman Vision 2040.

The conference features three days of discussions, working papers, and presentations, with workshops focusing on smart grid solutions, hydrogen energy, and electricity generation from turbines. Additionally, a technology exhibition will showcase the latest innovations in energy and electricity, with a platform for researchers and students to share their work.
