Muscat: Under a heartwarming initiative, the Eastern Desalination Company launched an initiative to support 300 orphan students with essential school supplies.

Additionally, 100 orphan families will receive support, marking the company’s commitment to social responsibility. The initiative is being carried out under the auspices of Talib bin Khamis al Balushi, Member of the Majlis Ash'shura, alongside Murshid bin Abdullah al Fanna, the newly appointed CEO of the Eastern Desalination Company, Khamis bin Rashid bin Sultan al Harbi, Head of the Industry Department for the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, and Dr Saleh al Alawi, Director of Community Responsibility at the company.

This project aims to provide much-needed educational supplies to orphan students, using lists from registered schools. By equipping these children with the tools necessary for their academic journey, the initiative seeks to ease the material and emotional burden on their caregivers, allowing the children to focus on their education.

Khamis bin Rashid al Harbi emphasised the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion’s focus on encouraging companies to actively fulfil their social responsibility. He expressed gratitude to the Eastern Desalination Company for leading by example, and encouraged other businesses and factories in the Al Sharqiyah South Governorate to follow suit.

'This initiative not only benefits the community at large, but also serves the Omanis in particular, leaving a positive impact on society,' Al Harbi stated.

Murshid al Fanna, CEO of the Eastern Desalination Company, shared that the initiative is part of the company’s annual strategy for its social responsibility programme in Sur.

'We prioritise supporting communities, especially orphaned children, as they require special attention to ensure their educational needs are met. It is well known that such families need assistance to achieve a decent standard of living,' Al Fanna remarked.

This initiative stands as a testament to the company’s ongoing commitment to societal welfare, and it is hoped that other organisations will be inspired to contribute to similar causes.
