Ahmed, Daysam move to finals of 100m in Arab Junior meet

MUSCAT: Oman’s junior sprinters Ahmed al Jabri and Daysam bin Hamoud al Dalhami progressed into the finals of 100 metre event at the 10th edition of the Arab Junior Athletics Championship for Boys and Girls which is underway in Taif city, Saudi Arabia.

The four-day event began on Thursday and will run until Sunday with participation of 400 athletes representing 18 countries including: Sultanate of Oman, Jordan, UAE, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Syria, Lebanon, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania, Libya and hosts Saudi Arabia.

The Oman national athletics team runner Ahmed al Jabri managed to earn spot into the final of 100 metres event after he qualified in the group 1 qualifications as he ended in the third position with a timing of 10.86 seconds while Fawrar Ahmed from Morocco took the first place as he completed the distance in 10.65 seconds and Abbas Muneel from Algeria was in second place with a timing of 10.72 seconds.



Oman’s other sprinter Daysam al Dalhami booked slot in the finals of 100 metres after he clocked 10.97 seconds in the group two qualifications to finish in the fourth position. Mubarak al Yami from Saudi Arabia ended as first with a timing of 10.71 seconds and Iraq’s Noor al Sareen in was second position with a time of 10.78 seconds. Jordan’s Hamza al Asad finished third after he clocked 10.93 seconds.

The finals of 100 metres took place late on Friday night at King Fahad Sports City in Taif.

Oman’s delegation also comprised other athletes including Moayed al Badri, who is taking part in 400 metres event, Mansour al Farsi in 800 metres competition and Al Yaqdhan al Abdali in high jump and long jump competitions. Oman team will also take part in the relay event. Coach Othman al Busaidy is accompanying them alongside Abdullah al Jabri as administrative member and Ahmed al Wahaibi as the therapist.
