Al Maqbali re-elected as chairman of OVA

 
MUSCAT, Sept 9

Eng Ibrahim bin Abdullah al Maqbali was re-elected as chairman of Oman Volleyball Association (OVA) for the second successive term (2024-2028) as he received nine votes compared to his opponent Dr Mohammed al Maamari who received six votes only. The General Assembly members of OVA voted for all the positions to form the new board.

For the vice-chairman position, the only candidate Dr Salam bin Salim al Toubi was elected while Aisha al Jabri was elected for the women's seat in the board. The three board members received high votes including Yousef al Badwawi, Salim al Hamadani and Ahmed al Maamri. The representative of the athletes in the board member will be defined in later stages. The elections were held in presence of 15 clubs which are eligible for voting at the General Assembly.

After re-election as chairman of OVA, Eng Ibrahim al Maqbali thanked the General Assembly members for their support and confidence. “I am pleased to continue working on my set strategic plans which has been implementing in cooperation with relevant authorities including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY) and relevant stakeholders. I will work hard with my board members to achieve the best for Oman’s volleyball,” he said.

'The Oman national team will take part in the Arab Championship in Bahrain besides the women team which will attend the Beach Volleyball Championship in Qatar. Furthermore, the OVA will organise series of local events including the league, the Ministry's Shield championship, Youth league and the beach volleyball championship. All these activities and events will be discussed in the first board meeting which will take place very soon,” he concluded.

AL HAJRI TO CHAIR OAA

The General Assembly Meeting to form the new board directors of Oman Athletics Association (OAA) took place on Monday.

The General Assembly members formed a new board directors that featured from a new chairman represented by Said bin Mohammed al Hajri who earned 17 votes from the clubs while his nearest competitor Jihad al Shaikh received five votes and former chairman Salim bin Said al Amri got two votes only. Ali al Marzooqi was elected as vice-chairman while Noora al Balushi took the women's mandatory seat.

The elected board members were Hadi al Alawi, Ahmed al Dhori and Hilal al Masrouri while Mohammed al Shukaili was elected as representative of athletes committee.
