Beware of false courier alerts, bank customers warned

Muscat: The leading bank of the Sultanate, Bank Muscat, has warned customers to beware of false courier alerts often received as emails or SMSes.
In its warning, the bank said that fake courier notifications can trick one into sharing personal information or making payments.
The messages read as:
How it works:
• Stammers send messages posing as courier companies, informing you of a pending package that couldn't be delivered due to an incorrect address or similar issues.
• They then create a sense of urgency and ask you to visit a fake link to update your details, cover additional shipping costs, or confirm your delivery.
• These links often lead to fake websites designed to steal your personal information or payment details.
• This allows scammers to gain access to sensitive information and use it for unauthorized transactions.
The bank said the recipient should always verify delivery notifications through official company channels rather than clicking on unsolicited links, not share personal or payment information through links or phone numbers provided in suspicious messages, and be cautious of messages that create a sense of urgency or demand immediate action, regularly monitor accounts for any unusual activity and report unauthorized transactions immediately, ensure your devices are equipped with the latest security updates and avoid using public Wi-Fi for sensitive transactions and stay alert by verifying delivery notifications through official company channels.
