SALALAH, Sept 6: The 4th Arab Tourism and Heritage Media Forum focussed on the 'soft power' of the region’s tourism wealth and

was held at the Rotana Salalah Hotel. Organised by the Gulf Tourism Media Association in collaboration with the Arab Union for Tourism Media, the two-day event drew tourism media professionals from across the Arab world, alongside key media and heritage institutions.

The inaugural session featured prominent figures including Lt Gen (Retd) Shaikh Salim bin Muslim Qattan, Ahmed bin Mohammed al Jarwan, Ghazi Salem al Hamr, Dr Said al Batouti, Dr Mohammed al Araimi, and Khalid al Dughaim.

Dr Sultan bin Khamees al Yahyai, President of the Arab Union for Tourism Media, highlighted the forum's aim to elevate media's role in promoting cultural tourism, supporting local communities, preserving heritage, and fostering cross-cultural understanding. He emphasised strengthening cooperation among tourism, media, and cultural entities to promote Arab tourism.

Ghazi Said al Hamr, Director of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Dhofar Branch), stressed the importance of tourism media in enhancing the region’s status as a tourist destination, boosting the local economy, and creating job opportunities. He noted that the Dhofar branch plays a vital role in showcasing the region's natural beauty and rich traditions.

Ahmed bin Mohammed al Jarwan, President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace, spoke on the significance of tourism media as a tool for cultural exchange and peace-building. He pointed out that tourism helps foster tolerance by allowing direct interactions between tourists and locals, thus enhancing mutual respect and dialogue.

Significantly, the Global Council is hosting the session to discuss the role of business people and the economy in supporting tolerance and peace. The session aims to discuss ways to enhance the role of investors in addressing worsening economic issues in many countries, which negatively impact peace stability in those countries, he noted.
