MUSCAT: The Oman national football team shifted their focus to South Korea’s clash which will take place in Muscat on Tuesday following the 1-0 defeat against Iraq late on Thursday in the opening game of the AFC Asian Qualifiers.
Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex will host the second round game of Red Warriors against the South Korean opponents in Group B for the third round of AFC Asian Qualifiers — Road to 26. Coach Jaroslav Silhavy's side will look to bounce back in this crucial match and return to positive vibes after the close defeat in the opener.
Iraq’s Ayman Hussain scored all important goal in the 14th minute in the first game of the Asian qualifiers to deliver his team with the first essential winning points. The victory meant, Iraq topped Group B after South Korea and Palestine played a goalless draw in Seoul city while Kuwait snatched a vital draw against Jordan in Amman city in the dying minutes to end the clash at 1-1 draw.
Speaking in the press conference post the game, Oman head coach Jaroslav Silhavy affirmed that this defeat will not position Oman away from the competition. “Our players delivered a top game but they suffered bad luck in scoring. The score could be better than from the loss as Iraqi team managed to score from a corner. Our players worked hard to press in the following minutes but they could not reach the opponent’s net,” he said.
“Three points were missed from our side in the opening game but we will bounce back strongly in the upcoming game,” the Czech coach said.
Responding to an inquiry on the late substitution, coach responded: ”There were no late substitutions made as the injury pushed us to do our
replacement. I believe we could end the game at draw result at least due to the top game showed by players. I would like to thank the players for the hard-fighting performance during the opening game and we are looking for better show in the forthcoming games,” he concluded.
Oman’s football team delegation returned back to Muscat on Friday noon to resume their training sessions at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex for the next game against South Korea on Tuesday.
