SALALAH: The Smart Cities Conference, organised by the Omani Society of Engineers, in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, and in partnership with Dhofar Municipality, commenced on Sunday in Salalah. The two-day event brings together a diverse group of engineers, designers, and industry experts.

Engineer Fouad bin Abdullah Al Kindi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Society of Engineers, opened the conference with a keynote address. He emphasised that this year's session focuses on the concepts, trends, and future visions of smart cities, urban development, and infrastructure sustainability within Oman, particularly in Dhofar Governorate.



Al Kindi highlighted that the conference aims to showcase the latest technologies and techniques that enhance urban life, sustainability, and policies that support sustainable urban growth through smart city initiatives and projects.

The first day featured a visual presentation on sustainable smart cities and the presentation of six working papers covering flexible and sustainable transportation systems in smart cities, their construction map in Oman, green buildings, and strategies for integrating comprehensive smart cities into the urban ecosystem of the Sultanate.

A dialogue session followed, discussing emerging technologies in sustainable smart cities. It reviewed global experiences in developing smart cities and establishing infrastructures aligned with the latest technologies and practices, with an emphasis on sustainability and environmental conservation.



The Sustainable Smart Cities Conference is part of the third edition of the Salalah Engineering Forum. The event aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences and knowledge among participants and explore the latest methods for developing sustainable smart cities. It also seeks to strengthen partnerships between government, academic, and private sector institutions.

Dr Ahmed bin Mohsen Al Ghassani, Chairman of Dhofar Municipality, inaugurated the conference, attended by numerous officials, experts, and specialists in engineering, planning, and innovation from Oman and beyond. - ONA
