New bridge to ease traffic at key intersection

MUSCAT: The General Secretariat of the Tender Board has invited bids for the construction of a new bridge on Al Rabat Street, at the critical intersection with Al Nahda Street in Salalah. This pivotal infrastructure project is strategically designed to enhance traffic flow, ensuring the seamless movement of vehicles through one of Dhofar's busiest junctions.
The proposed bridge is poised to become a key infrastructural link, significantly alleviating traffic congestion and improving overall travel efficiency in the area.
As part of a broader series of infrastructure enhancements, this project is set to complement existing developments, including the ongoing works at Umm Al Ghwarif Bridge. Furthermore, there are future plans to expand the initiative with the potential construction of an additional bridge in the vicinity.
This development comes as part of Oman’s broader strategy to modernise its transport infrastructure, particularly in rapidly growing urban areas. Al Rabat Street, one of the major thoroughfares in the region, serves as a critical artery connecting various residential, commercial, and industrial zones. The Al Rabat Street Bridge is designed to span approximately 1.5 kilometres, ensuring seamless connectivity across this crucial intersection. The bridge will feature a total development length of 2.5 kilometres, streamlining the flow of vehicles and reducing congestion in this busy area.
A key feature of the project is its focus on safety and convenience. The bridge will accommodate six lanes, divided equally in both directions, providing ample capacity for the anticipated volume of traffic. Additionally, the design incorporates efficient and smooth entry and exit points, with traffic lights positioned beneath the bridge to manage access to the adjacent commercial zones.
