MUSCAT: Omantel highlighted its technology-driven solutions during an important ICT event with government officials and business leaders from the Governorate of Dhofar at the “Omantel ICT” event during Khareef Dhofar, in the presence of His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar. Omantel showcased the innovative solutions provided by the company that have contributed immensely to supporting the digital transformation process in the country and strengthening the local economy of the Governorate of Dhofar.

Talal bin Said al Mamari, CEO of Omantel, reiterated the company’s focus on keeping pace with global technological advancements and highlighted its edge in having a strong ICT infrastructure. This is reflected in Omantel’s business model, marked by an integrated system of a sprawling core network, strategic acquisitions, and collaborations, including partnerships and alliances with major international technology companies to bring the most advanced technologies to foster digital transformation in Oman.

Al Mamari said, 'We attach great importance to the Dhofar Governorate due to its strategic location for global tech investments. Over the past few years, we have worked on a series of strategic projects and initiatives that have attracted around $150 million in global investments. These include the establishment of the SN1 Data Center in partnership with Equinix which is the world’s leading data center provider, attracting major global content providers and hyperscalers to build their own massive data centers in the city, and the upcoming landings of 10 international submarine cables in Salalah next year, which will make it the second most connected city in the Middle East.' On the sidelines of the event, a panel discussion titled 'Challenges and Opportunities Related to the Adoption of Digital Technologies in the Sultanate of Oman' was held. The panelists included Dr Amer Awadh al Rawas, a leading ICT expert who has contributed immensely to the growth of the telecom sector in Oman; Laila Abdullah al Hadrami, Executive Director of Oman Information Technology Society; and Lujaina Saif al Kharusi, Vice President of Governance, Regulatory Affairs, and Compliance at Omantel.

The session provided insights into several models, generating significant interest among participants and reflecting the extent of Oman's interest in future technologies. The event also shed light on steps taken in digital transformation at the corporate level and reviewed multiple experiences in digitization and the technology sector.

Omantel, through its subsidiaries such as Oman Data Park and Tadoom, showcased key innovative solutions and digital services, including data center services, cloud computing, cybersecurity, software as a service, smart buildings, digital twin solutions, remote control, and digital surveillance cameras.
