MoCSY to launch media campaign of Oman team's road to 2026 Fifa WC

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth (MoCSY), will launch on Thursday the media campaign to support the national team in their final and deciding round of the Asian qualifiers to 2026 Fifa World Cup. The event will be held in presence of Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Under-Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, in presence of top dignitaries and domestic sporting figures including former national team players including Ali al Habsi, Imad al Hosni and other players. The purpose of the campaign is to provide the desired media and fan support for Red Warriors in their main assignment at qualifiers to accomplish the dream of qualifying to the World Cup for the first time ever in the history.

The Red Warriors were drawn in a balanced group that comprised South Korea, Iraq, Jordan, Palestine and Kuwait in Group B. Oman will begin their campaign in the Asian qualifiers with an away match against Iraq in Basra city on September 5, before hosting South Korea in a key game on September 10. Later, Red Warriors will meet Kuwait on October 10 in Muscat and it will be followed by Jordan clash on October 15 in Amman city. The concluding first leg matches will be against Palestine on November 14.



Group A will feature from Asian Cup champions Qatar alongside with top seeds Iran, Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates, Kyrgyzstan and North Korea. Asian heavyweights Japan, who are seeking to qualify for the Fifa World Cup 2026 for the eighth consecutive time, will be in tough challenge in Group C as they will meet Australia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, China and Indonesia teams.

The first two toppers from each of the three groups in the deciding stage of the qualifiers will secure direct spots at the Fifa World Cup 2026 while the third and fourth placed teams from each group, six in total, will progress to the AFC Asian Qualifiers — Road to 26 Playoff, to be contested in two groups of three teams in a single round robin format, with both group winners qualifying for the global showpiece. The two second-placed finishers from the Play-off will face off in a home and away tie to earn the right to reach the Intercontinental Play-off and vie for the final available berth. The qualifiers games will kick off on September 5 with the final round of matches scheduled for June 10, 2025.
