Sur Marine Sports Festival to kick-start on August 18

Sur: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in collaboration with the Office of Governor of South Al Sharqiyah and a number of public and private establishments, are organizing the Sur Marine Sports Festival as part of the activities of Sur, the Arab Tourism Capital 2024 from August 18 to 28, at the 'Mokha' beach in the Wilayat of Sur.By organizing the festival, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism seeks to promote tourism in the Wilayat of Sur in particular and the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah in general as well as highlight the historical role of Sur as a centre of civilizational and cultural communication centre. Besides, the festival represents a tourist attraction for visitors from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.
Executed by Oman Sail, the festival involves the Oman Sailing Championship 2024 for the four categories of professionals, juniors, Elka 4 and Elka 6 boats. The championship also includes kite surfing races, swimming races, and traditional rowing boat races in addition to the sailing experience and sailing via Diam boats, where festival-goers will have the chance to enjoy exciting sailing experiences.
The festival will also include a special area for fans, an exhibition for small and medium enterprises and handicrafts, food trucks, and a host of entertaining activities.
The festival seeks to hone the sailing skills of young people and adolescents as well as contribute to develop tourism to bring about economic benefits and place the Sultanate of Oman as a preferred global hub for hosting international races and a destination for adventure tourism. — ONA
