Omani Theatre Festival kicks off

Muscat: The press conference for the Eighth Omani Theatre Festival was held on Tuesday at the Omani Society for Fine Arts, chaired by Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidy, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Culture.
Sayyid Said unveiled the festival's logo, which reflects the dynamic and vibrant nature of the theatre world. He also announced the theatrical performances that have qualified for the festival.
Ibrahim bin Saif Bani Araba, Festival Director, stated that the events will start on September 22 and continue until October 1, with some performances taking place at the Oman Film Society.
Around 30 guests from various Arab and Gulf countries will be invited. The festival will feature discussion panels, artistic workshops, theatre performances for children and people with disabilities, and multiple awards such as Best Video (Promo) and Best Theatre Poster.
The financial awards will exceed RO 30,000 distributed among the top three places (Best Script, Best Direction, Best Scenography, and Best Actor and Actress).
The festival will also include training workshops, intellectual and practical seminars, diverse performances including classic Omani plays and a musical showcase.
Additionally, an exhibition will highlight Omani theatre artists.
The festival's jury consists of five prominent members in the field of theatre, including Hussein al Muslim from Kuwait, Abdul Rahman al Mulla from Qatar, Mohammed al Balushi from Oman, Mohammed al Amri from the UAE, and Yusuf al Hamdan from Bahrain.
At the end of the conference, it was announced that a seminar titled 'Towards an Effective Omani Theatre' will discuss the development of Omani theatre in the early 21st century, focusing on contemporary theatre experiences and Omani theatre’s participation in international festivals.
