MUSCAT: Nadhira Al Harthy continues to make headlines for Oman. After previously summitting Everest, K2, Ama Dablam, and the Matterhorn, she has once again brought the Omani flag to new heights, twice reaching over 8,000 metres within three weeks in July. Nadhira summited Nanga Parbat (8,125 metres) on July 10 and Gasherbrum II (G2) (8,034 metres) on July 24 in Pakistan, becoming the first Arab to summit G2.

Gasherbrum II is a mountain in the Karakoram range of the Himalayas, located on the border between Pakistan and China. It is one of the 14 eight-thousanders, which are peaks over 8,000 metres in elevation. Summiting G2 is a significant mountaineering achievement. A civil servant and mountaineer, Nadhira was the second person from Oman and the first Omani woman to climb Mount Everest. She has also summited several other eight-thousanders, including Manaslu, K2, and Nanga Parbat.
