Muscat: The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has started phase two of the Al Sharqiyah Expressway Project, from Al Kamil to Sur.

The project, implemented by Al Tasneem Projects Limited, links the governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah.

Costing over 68 million Omani Rials, the project includes upgrading the current road to a dual road with three lanes, spanning 52 kilometers from Al Kamil to Sur, and a dual road with two lanes, extending 3 kilometers from the Sur roundabout to Sur Plaza Hotel. Additional constructions include an overpass, valley crossing bridges, arched overpasses, vehicle tunnels, and pedestrian tunnels. The project also involves completing lighting works and installing traffic lights in the Wilayat of Sur.

This vital project aims to facilitate traffic between the two governorates, enhancing economic and social development. It is expected to take about 22 months to complete. The project will also convert the “Bilad Sur” roundabout into traffic signals and install lighting along a 3-kilometer stretch in Sur.
