Muscat: Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) announced the launch of its summer Sports Spark event with logistical support provided by Sabco Sport. The event will run from July 25 to August 24 with various indoor (Air-condition) activities for locals to enjoy during summer months.

The activities will run every day from 9 am until midnight. There will be children’s activities in the morning, while afternoons and evenings are exclusive for adult and two days cater for women on August 3 and 17.

Eng Said Al Shanfari, CEO of OCEC, explained to Observer, 'The 'Sports Spark' event is the first of its kind to be held at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. It comes as part of the Centre's efforts to diversify its events and attract the interest of various sectors of the community. The event aims to fill the void of entertainment during the summer season when many people indulge in exercising and training.'

Al Shanfari added, 'Sports Spark features wide, open air-conditioned areas with state-of-the-art facilities, making it a perfect setting for various sports and recreational activities in a comfortable atmosphere.'

The Sports Spark event offers different types of games and sports for all ages and interests, including football, basketball, badminton, a Ninja course, cricket, e-gaming a fitness area, and children's games. Some of these games will also include special tournaments, with fun competitions for participants taking part.

Sports Spark is positioning itself as a complete, one-of-a-kind alternative to spending the summer at shopping centres or at home, providing a huge space of 9,000 square metres to practice over 10 types of sports under one roof.

Al Shanfari highlighted the event’s expected success, 'The OCEC is an ideal location to host this event, as it is centrally located in Muscat, just 15 minutes from any part of the city. The center is easily accessible via major highways and provides 4,000 parking spaces, many of which are covered. We know this is the type of event our local communities are looking for and is easily accessible for all'.

The programme at Sports Spark is diversified with events and activities suitable for all ages. Visitors can look forward to watching different kinds of sports games, enjoying various entertainment, or just relaxing in the cafes dotting the exhibition halls. A summer camp for children aged 6 to 14 will also be available daily with packages offered on the Sports Spark website, to access privacy and enjoy the range of sports available on-site.
