MUSCAT: Bait Al Zubair Foundation hosted the cultural event 'Syrian Days at Bait Al Zubair' on Saturday, featuring a variety of segments, including the premiere screening of the film 'Al Matran' in the Sultanate of Oman. The film, written by Hassan Youssef and directed by Syrian-Palestinian Basil Al Khatib, stars Rashid Assaf alongside a notable cast of Syrian drama actors.

Set in Kapuji, 'Al Matran' portrays the aftermath of the Nakba of 1948. The protagonist, a Greek Catholic Melkite bishop, returns to his homeland of Syria, and after 17 years, specifically in 1965, he goes back to Palestine, particularly to the city of Jerusalem. There, he witnesses the hardships faced by Palestinians under Israeli occupation. The bishop navigates a dual role during this period, serving both as a spiritual leader and an advocate for Palestinian rights.

The Syrian Days event also includes a poetry session featuring poets Hilal Al Siyabi and Yaqeen Junoud, along with musical performances by artists Ahmed Sakmani, Diala Ammar, and Dr Samia Asfour. Additionally, the event features an exhibition of Syrian visual arts and a tasting experience of Syrian cuisine. - ONA
