Muscat: Twelve junior players are taking part in table tennis training camp, organised by Oman Table Tennis Association (OTTA) at the training hall in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, which runs till Thursday.

The camp is held under supervision of Iranian coach Faeti Keivani, who trains the national girls' team. The participants were selected based on the results of the physical and technical tests conducted during the Under-12 Table Tennis Festival.

The programme included intensive training on the basic skills of the game such as introductory skills as well as on hand and foot movements and the correct grip of the racket and ball. At the end of the camp, the participants will undergo a practical test to select the best of them to be in the next preparation camps.

Maryam al Alawi, a member of the board of directors of OTTA, said, 'The main goal of these camps is to select the boys and girls to represent Oman in local and international competitions.' 'Next week, 16 girls will undergo training under Keivani. OTTA pays special attention to develop women's table tennis in Oman, and to form women's teams in various age groups in local and international competitions,' she said.
