Environment Authority reports no leaks from capsized oil tanker

 
Muscat: The Environment Authority issued a statement on Wednesday regarding the oil tanker that capsized 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, in the Wilayat of Duqm.

According to the statement It was confirmed that the ship is intact and no substances have leaked from it so far. Given the current situation, the first assessment indicates that it is unlikely for a leak to occur due to natural factors, and it is also anticipated that the materials will likely disperse before reaching the Omani coasts.

The authority emphasized its preparedness for all possible scenarios, affirming its ability to manage the situation. A marine agent has been appointed, and a specialized company has been tasked with handling potential oil spills in anticipation of any emergency.

The Maritime Security Center reported that the capsized oil tanker, flying the Comoros flag, has prompted a coordinated search and rescue operation relevant involving authorities.

Search and rescue operations have successfully found 10 crew members of the oil tanker Prestige Falcon, 9 found alive. Tragically, one crew member was found deceased. The search and rescue operations continue for the remaining members of the vessel's crew.

The oil tanker, named Prestige Falcon, was heading to the Yemeni port of Aden when it was capsized. ​​​​​​
