Where did the 'wow factor' go?

Remember the first time you travelled to a new country?

And what about coming across new toys as a child? Personally it was amazing to see the sand dunes of Oman as a child and to run across it with the wind blowing. It must have been early summer.

For the last few days, I have been asking friends about when did we begin to lose the 'wow factor' in life?

The 'wow factor' is the surprise element we come across in life.

In advertising terms it is a promise of a new experience that is guaranteed by the use of a new product.

One friend pointed out that it could be an age factor. As we age we begin to lose the fascination and most importantly interest.

And I thought to myself and expressed, no wonder some people keep traveling in life. To see new sights and lights and sounds and flavours. And when you begin to miss the taste of your cuisine and mother tongue, we rediscover a new found fondness to things we are used to.

So what about people who cannot travel wide to seek experiences due to reasons related to health or wealth?

Should people lead a boring life?

Not quite so.

A whole lot of friends have retired. Some chose to relax and lead a quiet life, while others reinvented themselves. A totally different career explored bringing a new interpretation to life. And for those who toiled away throughout their career, retirement has been a gift to enjoy bringing in relaxed moments of life.

So there must be a bit of a 'wow factor' there too.

So what do we do to even look for the 'wow factor'?

We can even look at each day. Was there something that was impressive or memorable on this day?

Are we actually on a look out for something new? Would a new make over bring in the freshness of a 'wow factor'? It is not just to impress others but to bring up the positivity within ourselves.

It seems it is the younger years when we have gone through the most number of wow moments. So is it the aging that takes away the spark in life?

No more surprises? Or could it be the overload of information which is a trait of this era?

An aunt chose to learn traditional art forms in her 70s and actually has gone onto perform. That must be the zest we are talking about it in the 'wow factor'. Should we think of what others might say or follow our hearts and thoughts?

Life is not just meant to exist. It is an opportunity to feed our mind and brain something that makes us think or stop on our path. While others inspire us we can leave something for others’ imagination too.

A thought of creativity can only come from a fertile mind and that mind needs good seed to be sown. You want a garden and not just a land with weeds.

After all it is this mind which is your true home. You cannot pop it with paint, colours or artwork. It needs good thoughts. And for this we need to read and meet people.

And here you want to be liked and accepted and appreciated. So this is one place the choice is completely yours.

The most beautiful thing is self acceptance and self love which gives you the energy to love and respect others and their feelings.

Just like what the air hostesses say - first you wear the oxygen mask and then help others, even if they are children.
