MUSCAT: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Economy, is among 37 countries that will present their Voluntary National Reviews at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), currently under way in New York.

Deliberations during the 10-day-long forum, which began on July 8, are focused around the theme, ‘Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient, and innovative solutions.’

In a post on X, the Ministry of Economy said it would be participating in the activities of the high-level forum. It includes a crucial three-day ministerial segment from Monday, July 15, to Wednesday, July 17, integrated into the Council's High-level Segment. The final day of the ECOSOC's High-level Segment will conclude on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

The United Nations has outlined the focus areas for the 2024 High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), emphasizing its commitment to the integrated and indivisible nature of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Focusing on key goals, the forum aims to eradicate global poverty (Goal 1), ensure food security, improved nutrition, and sustainable agriculture (Goal 2), take urgent action against climate change (Goal 13), foster peaceful and inclusive societies with access to justice (Goal 16), and strengthen the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development (Goal 17). These efforts underscore the forum's role in advancing a sustainable and equitable future.

The forum, which will focus on five key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Zero Hunger, Climate Action, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, aims to foster global dialogue and collaboration towards achieving these critical milestones. Participants will delve into strategies aimed at addressing poverty eradication amidst ongoing global challenges.

The Voluntary National Reviews to be presented by participating countries will showcase their progress, challenges, and lessons learned in implementing the SDGs. This sharing of experiences is expected to provide valuable insights into effective approaches and initiatives that can be scaled globally.

With partnerships being a cornerstone of the SDGs, the forum will also emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts among governments, civil society, and the private sector in driving sustainable development forward.

This year's event is anticipated to serve as a platform for fostering innovative solutions and resilient strategies to overcome current and future socio-economic and environmental challenges.
