MUSCAT, JULY 8
The launch of a first-ever hydroponic farm in Al Jabal Al Akhdar is set to bolster the agritourism appeal of this popular mountaintop destination in Oman’s Al Dakhliyah Governorate.
Last week, the luxurious Alila Jabal Akhdar – part of Omran Group’s portfolio - unveiled the hydroponic farm as part of the resort's commitment to enhancing guest experiences and promoting sustainability, additionally, offering educational tours for schools and universities, fostering a deeper understanding of sustainable practices.
In an exclusive interview with the Observer, Puneet Singh, General Manager, emphasized Omran's continuous support for agritourism and sustainable tourism, which will contribute to a reduced carbon footprint. The hydroponic farm project leverages the unique climate and terrain of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, providing fresh, farm-to-table ingredients for the resort's culinary offerings, he noted.
Singh explained that the hydroponic farm aims to ensure the highest quality and flavor in every dish served at the resort. By growing produce on-site, Alila Jabal Akhdar enhances its guests' culinary experiences while demonstrating a commitment to environmental responsibility. The initiative allows guests to enjoy the freshest produce, adding a new dimension to their stay.
The hydroponic farm is central to Alila Jabal Akhdar's sustainability efforts. According to Singh, by the end of 2025, the farm will be powered entirely by solar panels, making it 100 per cent sustainable. This aligns with the resort's goals of reducing its carbon footprint and promoting renewable energy. The farm also reduces the need to transport goods from cities and towns, supporting local sustainability efforts by growing produce that is typically imported to Oman.
