MUSCAT: Masirah blanked Oman Club 3-0 in a thrilling final to emerge the title of the 2024 Oman Squash Club Championship at Squash halls in Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat on Saturday.

Iraqi player Mohammed Ferman delivered an impressive show in the opening set of the game to beat his opponent Egyptian Mazin Mohammed from Oman club by 3-0. In two following sets, Oman’s top-ranking squash player Salim al Maqbali stunned his rivals Mohammed al Battashi 3-0 to make it 2-0 before Waleed al Neri from Masirah club confirmed the victory for his team by securing the third consecutive set win by 3-0.

In the third and fourth playoffs, Seeb club players outclassed Saham team by 2-1 to claim the third place award. Seeb team were represented by Taha al Anqoodi, Ahmed al Abri and Mujtaba.



Iraq’s first ranking squash player, Mohammed Ferman, and representative of Masirah team expressed delight in clinching the title in Muscat and assisting his team Masirah in this top domestic squash event.“ Thanks to the tournament organisers, Oman Racket Sports Committee (ORSC) for the great conduct of the tournament. I am very glad to attend this event in Muscat and I did not expect to win the title especially the competitions were very tough in the final stages of the tournament. Thanks to my teammates ad looking for more achievements in the coming period,” he added.



Eng Said bin Rashid al Asmi, CEO of Seeh Al Sarya Engineering LLC, was the chief guest for the concluding ceremony in the presence of Dr Abdulrahim bin Musallam al Droushi, Chairman of ORSC, and a number of clubs representatives and invitees. The chief guest congratulated the winners and delivered the awards and medals to the top three club winners. Seeb players handed over the bronze medals while Oman clubs received silver medals. The champion Masirah players got the gold medals and the tournament trophy from the chief guest besides the cash award.



The three-day event featured the participation of nine clubs including: Oman, Suhar, Salalah, Masirah, Seeb, Qurayat, Baushar, Sur and Al Kamil Wal Wafi. The championship featured high technical levels and exciting matches.

The clubs were divided into two groups. The first group included Oman, Salalah, Qurayat, Sohar and Sur. While the second group included Masirah, Seeb, Baushar and Al Kamil W'al Wafi. Oman and Sohar clubs qualified from the first group while Masirah and Seeb clubs secured tickets from the second group. In the semifinals, Masirah players defeated Sohar 3-0, and Oman players won against Seeb 2-1.



Dr Abdulrahim bin Musallam al Droushi, Chairman of ORSC, expressed his full satisfaction with the successful conclusion of the 2024 Oman Squash Club Championship. “ It was a unique championship as the technical rules of the tournament allowed clubs to have a contract with one ranked international player. This step was aimed to improve the technical levels of local players and create a highly competitive environment,” he added.

“ Thanks to all our partners including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, and the sponsoring companies Seeh Al Sarya Engineering LLC and Renaissance Services. Special appreciation goes to the domestic clubs at this championship for their positive participation and I hope to see more clubs in future editions,” he ended.
