Celebrating Omani cinema
The Omani Film Society’s celebrations of the 22nd anniversary of its founding began on Sunday when it hosted cinema nights at the society’s headquarters.
The three-day screening will conclude on June 26, Wednesday.
19 Omani short films that won various international awards will be screened during the three days, including 11 documentaries and 8 feature films.
These films varied between productions by the Omani Cinema Society and productions by other parties.
On the first day, the film 'Sultana' by director Dr Khalid Al Zadjali was screened. This was followed by a screening of the film 'Alpha and Beta' by director Asim Al Hashmi, the film 'Bo' by director Yousef Al Hosani, and the film 'Long Distances' by directors Ali Al Bimani and Hamad Al Qasabi on the first day.
On the second day, director Suliman Al Khalili's film 'Ashes', film 'Beta Carotene' by director Mohammad Al Darwashi, the film 'A Child’s Cry' by director Saleh Al Muqaimi, and director Fahd Al Maimani's film 'You Will Not Dive Alone' will be screened.
On the third day, they will show the film 'Blue Maybe' by director Mohammed Al Kindi, the film Al Maniwar by director Mohammed Al Ajmi, the film Al Duruj by director Dr Hamid Al Amiri, the film Birds’ Paradise by director Abdullah Al Raisi, the film by director Hussein Al Balushi, the film The Missing Piece.
The movie nights will continue on the fourth day with the films 'Al Zij' by director Salah Al Hadrami, the film 'The Religion of Water' by director Haitham Suleiman, the film 'Man from Jabal Qahwan” by director Mohammed Al Rasbi, and the film 'Athar' by director Buthaina Al Kindi.
During the cinema nights, the book Omani Film Between Reality and Ambition written by Dr Humaid bin Said Al Amri and Tunisian journalist Noura Badawi, and produced by the Omani Film Society will be launched.
It includes critical readings of Omani cinema by several Arab critics, in addition to the ambitions that he aspires to. The book enriches the cinematic and critical library in the Sultanate and is considered one of the first books that dealt with criticism and reading of Omani cinematic works.
During the screening nights, the association plans to launch the 'Support and Production Fund' for 2024, which is concerned with supporting and financing film production for Omani filmmakers who are members of the association.
This is part of the association’s interest in strengthening the cinematic movement and supporting it with the production of new cinematic projects. The cinematic nights will also include the signing of a cooperation agreement between the association and the law firm of Ahmed Al Jahwari and legal consultations.
The screenings will be held at the headquarters of the Omani Film Society and begin at 7 pm. This is part of the cultural cinematic events that it organises monthly, where several Arab and international cinematic films are screened every month.
