Samayil: The Ministry of Health on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the establishment of Samayil Hospital in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, on Wednesday.

The foundation stone laying ceremony was held under the auspices of Shaikh Abdulmalik bin Abdullah al Khalili, Chairman of the State Council.



The RO 45 million hospital’s main building is composed of the ground floor plus four other floors. The hospital will occupy a total area of 250,000 square metres with a built-up area of 61,000 square metres. It has a cutting-edge design and specifications that are quite different from the existing ones.

Dr Said bin Hareb al Lamki, Under-secretary of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, said: “Currently there are efforts to implement the strategic goals of the Oman Vision 2040 and align the health sector’s strategic programmes to the vision. The healthcare sector is witnessing more comprehensive services to achieve sustainable health for all with improved care and quality.



Al Lamki said that the hospital will expand the umbrella of specialized healthcare services and rehabilitate referral hospitals to realize the comprehensive health coverage programme by providing primary and secondary health care through establishing, replacement and upgrading the existing hospitals in most governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.



The number of health institutions in the Sultanate of Oman amounted to 265 health institutions at the end of 2023. These include 194 health centres, 21 health complexes, and 50 hospitals with a total of more than 5,000 beds all of which provide all levels of health care with high efficiency and quality. In addition, the Ministry is currently establishing nine new hospitals in all governorates of the Sultanate of Oman including Samayil Hospital, the official said.



The hospital will include a daycare department, a dental clinic, surgical and internal medicine wards, three operating theaters completed with every requisite equipment, a special intensive care department, and an integrated floor for gynecology, pediatrics ward, a gynecology and obstetrics ward, a maternity department, in addition to two operating theaters and a unit for the care of premature babies.
