Sami al Sulaimi wins gold at Asian Para-Cycling Championship

Muscat: Omani Paralympic champion Sami bin Salem al Sulaimi won the gold medal in the H4 time trial at the Asian Cycling Championship, which was held in Kazakhstan's capital Almaty from June 4 to 7.
Al Sulaimi managed to clinch first place after completing the race distance in a time of 28.34.666. Indian Birhant Akhal came in second, while Emirati Rashid al Dhahiri took third place.
Dr Mansour al Touqi, Chairman of the Oman Paralympic Committee, said: 'We congratulate Oman on this Asian achievement in Paralympic sport, which was achieved through cycling or hand cycling, which is a new sport for our players in general and the player Sami al Sulaimi in particular. We consider it a historic achievement for the player and we are proud in the Paralympic Committee of this achievement for this promising player who has proven that he is a champion of gold.'
Al Touqi added, 'We praise the player's discipline in his training and his insistence on participating, so the committee supported him in cooperation with the Oman Cycling Association, and we wish the player continued success.'
For his part, Al Sulaimi expressed his great pride in this achievement, saying: 'This gold medal means a lot to me. It was a journey full of challenges and sacrifices. Since I started training, I knew that the road would not be easy, but thanks to the great support I received from my family and the Oman Paralympic Committee, I was able to overcome all the obstacles.'
He continued: 'I thank everyone who stood by me during this journey, especially Dr Mansour Al Touqi and the Oman Paralympic Committee. They have always been there to offer support and valuable advice. This achievement is not mine alone, but for everyone who contributed to its achievement.'
On his future aspirations, al Sulaimi said: 'I do not consider this medal to be the end of the road, but rather a new beginning. I aspire to participate in world championships and dream of raising the Omani flag in international forums. I know that the road is still long, but I am ready to face any challenges that come.'
