Barka Fort festival begins on June 20

 
MUSCAT: Al Batinah South Governorate is organising 'Barka Fort Nights' from June 20 to 24, with the participation of various government and private agencies.

An event to launch the brand identity of the festival was held under the auspices of Eng Masoud bin Said al Hashmi, Governor of Al Batinah South, in the presence of a number of officials.

Sayyid Tariq bin Mahmoud al Busaidy, Wali of Barka, reviewed the objectives of Layali Al Hosn, explaining that they reflect the objectives of the Oman Vision 2040 in fostering citizenship, identity, national heritage and culture. 'Organising the Barka Fort Nights comes within the framework of strengthening the role of the governorates in light of decentralisation, and to support the tourism sector and enhance its contribution to the national economy.'

He said the objectives are to promote tourism, attract investments in archaeological and heritage areas, offer entertainment for people, support small and medium enterprises and highlight the historical role of Barka Fort.

The most prominent programmes and events of Barka Fort Nights include theatre, operetta to illustrate the history of the Wilayat of Barka, innovation hackathon and dialogue sessions. As part of the festival, Oman Sail will host events for school students and people to experience sailing on Al Muraisi Beach.
