Auctioning of dates in Al Mudhaibi begins

As the date harvest season nears amid scorching summer, the auction of date palm crops began in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi, Al Sharqiyah North Governorate.
The auction attracted a large number of people, even as the first crop is ripening and promising of a good season. The campaign brings together buyers, farmers and auctioneers who organise harvest sales along the wadis and aflaj in different times to help a larger number of the public, including employees working in government and private establishments, to take part.
The crops are sold when they are still on the trees, and it is a good way to market the surplus product at reasonable prices.
Mohammed al Habsi of Al Mudhaibi, said: With the onset of summer, the villages of Al Mudhaibi are witnessing auction of Al Naghal, the first variety of dates, which will continue for two to three weeks in the villages of Al Zahib, Al Rada, Al Sharq, Al Zaidi, Al Fath, Al Ainin, Al Khashaba, Al Sedira, Al Wafi, Al Tala'a. The auction always witnesses a great demand due to the quality and abundance of the crop varieties in these villages.'
Sulaiman al Habsi, auction supervisor, said that the prices ranged between RO 8 and RO 20.
Auction of dates in the Wilayat of Al Mudhaibi is divided into two stages. In the first stage, dates varieties like Al Najal, Al Madluki and Al Khunaizi” are auctioned. In the second stage after Eid al Adha, the rest of the crops are auctioned. These inclued Khalas, Meznaj, Qashosh, and Fard” which Al Mudhaibi is famous for.
