MUSCAT: Dhofar Municipality unveiled its Salalah Smart City Platform, an innovative project that leverages advanced technology to enhance tourism and delivery of e-services in Dhofar Governorate. The unveiling took place at the Municipality’s booth at COMEX 2024 on Thursday, May 30, 2024. His Highness Sayyid Marwan bin Turki al Said, Governor of Dhofar, presided over the launch event.
The Salalah Smart City Platform is meticulously designed to revolutionize city management, energy conservation, and citizen-government interaction through the implementation of intelligent systems. Offering a comprehensive suite of smart services, the platform serves as a centralized hub for integrating various systems, including smart parking management, street lighting, and a traffic control system utilizing Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. Additionally, the platform seamlessly integrates with geographic information systems, cameras, and other internal municipal systems.
Speaking to the Observer, Musalam Qatan, the official spokesperson for Dhofar Municipality, underscored the importance of the pivotal services provided within the framework of our digital transformation endeavor. He elaborated on the challenges showcased at our digital transformation corner, particularly emphasizing the resistance to change and the complexities involved in restructuring databases and systems. Despite encountering these obstacles, notable advancements were achieved, with the highlight being the launch of the electronic portal in 2022.
This milestone accomplishment signifies a significant shift, as the portal serves as a self-service platform, empowering citizens to access a multitude of services including electronic authentication and online payments. This innovative approach fundamentally transforms the dynamics of resident-municipality interactions, ushering in a new era of convenience and efficiency.
Central to the project is the establishment of a dedicated control and monitoring room, which acts as the nerve center for the Salalah Smart City initiative. From this command center, municipal authorities will oversee and manage the platform, ensuring that services are delivered swiftly and efficiently.
The primary goal of the Salalah Smart City Platform is to enhance the citizen experience by providing faster, more responsive services while promoting transparency and fostering community engagement. By harnessing the power of technology, the Dhofar Municipality aims to create a more connected, sustainable, and livable environment for residents of the Dhofar Governorate.
