MTCIT to rehabilitate key roads in North Sharqiyah

Muscat - Engineer Khamis bin Mohammed al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), for Transport, announced a plan to rehabilitate the road linking Sinaw to the highway, as well as the new Wadi Bani Khalid road, which starts from Aqaba in the North Sharqiyah governorate.

The tender for the alternative route after completing the procedures with the rest of the relevant authorities will be granted in the coming days.

A new alternative road will be constructed from Aqaba to Wadi Bani Khalid, around 6 to 7 kilometers, designed to be more durable to withstand landslides. This project, which was proposed before the current road was damaged in extreme weather conditions, will invite expertise from companies experienced in constructing similar roads in other governorates of the Sultanate of Oman.

MTCIT will also rehabilitate the road leading to the village of Saiq in the Wilayat of Al Kamil W'al Wafi by constructing wadi bridges to avoid damage during rain and floods.

The undersecretary said the ministry is currently inventorying the rest of the roads intending to make improvements in some designs to avoid damages during extreme weather conditions.
