Oman taekwondo team feted for GCC Youth Games show

The South Korean Embassy in the Sultanate of Oman feted the Oman youth taekwondo team members for their outstanding achievement at the GCC Youth Games held in UAE in April.
Brigadier (retired) Abdulmalek Ghassan al Mazruoi, Chairman of Oman Taekwondo Committee, Mohamed bin Salim al Harthy, Member of State Council and former Oman Ambassador to South Korea and other top officials were hosted by Kiejoo Kim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Sultanate of Oman, on Tuesday.
The Oman taekwondo team grabbed five medals on the opening day of the first GCC Youth Games competitions, hosted by the UAE from April 16 to May 2 where participants of all GCC countries competed in 24 games.
Oman Olympic committee participated with around 200 athletes competing in 15 games, includes sailing, football, golf, taekwondo, water sports, athletics, handball, volleyball, basketball, chess, fencing, table tennis, billiards, snooker and equestrian, in addition to the para athletics team.
The taekwondo team fetched home five medals, including four gold and one silver. Oman's Dawod al Yousifi succeeded in snatching the first gold medal in the 33-37 kg weight competition after defeating UAE's Hamid Mohammed to become the first player to win a medal in this tournament’s record.
Ziyad al Balushi won the second gold in the 37-41 kg, after defeating Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Abdulrahman. Muhannad al Hajri claimed the third gold medal in the weight of 49-53 kg after his victory over UAE's Youssef al Antali. In girls category, Oman's Dania al Abdalia won the fourth gold in the 37-41 kg weight, after defeating UAE's Magda Rashid. And finally, Youssef al Zadjali won the silver in the weight of 45-49 kg, after he lost to UAE's Nasser al Muhairi in the final.
'This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Korea and Oman and Omani team winning laurels at an international event gives us immense pleasure. This reception is held to congratulate the Oman national youth taekwondo players for their outstanding performance in the GCC Youth Games in UAE in April,' said Kiejoo Kim.
